Favorite Characters: Robo-Ky

Robo-Ky is a playable character from the Guilty Gear fighting game series, and one of my absolute favorite fighting game characters, period. He is a blue-green robot that was modeled after another major character (Ky Kiske), but his moveset varies greatly, making use of his ability to seemingly produce virtually anything from his body (and to use it as a weapon). Though the first wave of Robo-Kys produced were intended as assassination robots, they are more or less completely incompetent, and flaws in their programming have developed into a crass, rude, and flirty personality that thinks far more highly of himself than he should. This personality is heavily reflected in his Accent Core sprites, where he has a taunt animation where he looks like he's trying to flirt with the opponent (producing a table, drinks, and fruit from his sword and leaning on it), and another animation where he is insulting the opponent while lying pathetically on the ground. His attacks are also just as wildly unpredictable as they are humorous to look at, which is a fantastic reflection of his status as a comedic character (as well as his typical play style!).

While he does not have a heavy influence on the story of Accent Core outside of being comedy relief (and a vital plot point in some other characters' storylines in arcade mode), he has significantly more relevance in the following games, with differing animations to match. He notably more refined, calm animations during the cutscenes in Xrd (though still keeping aspects of his erratic personality when he gets mad, often shouting profanities). This development also reflects a change in personality between the games - the last remaining Robo-ky is quite serious when he needs to be, and even oddly philosophical at times. This balance between comedy and full seriousness is a large part of what makes him so appealing to me as a character, along with his dynamic with Venom (another playable character) from Xrd onwards.

For reference, here's Ky Kiske, the character he's a robotic clone of. (They are really only the same in appearance only, and share some similar sprite animations (such as their idles))

Below is also a small gallery of various Accent Core Robo-Ky sprites and animations for reference.

Down air attack where he turns his body into a helicopter bike. Comedically inefficient setup considering he is shown to be able to fly with rockets.

Delayed getup - insults opponent during this animation. Typically used for making your opponent miss their attack, so you can get a hit in immediately afterwards!

Not sure what attack this is, but it's a good example of an animation showing off his goofy nature/how weird some of the attacks he pulls out from nowhere can be.

Self-destruct animation as part of the Ris-KY Lovers move. I really love the cartoonish exaggeration of his robot "skeleton"!

Guard(?) sprite where he looks hilariously unsteady. He's bad at his job, even at the basic fighting level.

I don't know what this sprite is used for/a part of, but it's both goofy and shows off his ridiculous amount of misplaced confidence.
